Woody Harrelson

Woody Harrelson

Woody Harrelson
July 23, 1961
Midland, Texas, USA

This Lion's roar is a voice for the jungle -- and for the whole planet.

'Since I was a kid I felt this need to play a role in helping Mother Earth.'

Born in Midland, Texas to Diane and Charles Harrelson, Woodrow Tracy Harrelson was raised in Lebanon, Ohio by his mother. His parents were divorced when he was 3 years old. He has two brothers, Jordan and Brett. He studied English and theatre at Indiana's Hanover College, graduating in 1983. From there it was on to the Big Apple. His career breakthrough came in 1985 with the part of assistant bartender Woody Boyd in the NBC hit sitcom, 'Cheers.' His performance won him an Emmy in 1989 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Woody's movie debut came in 1986 alongside Goldie Hawn and Wesley Snipes in Wildcats. In 1991, he played a homeless Vietnam Veteran in Ted and Venus. He teamed up with Wesley Snipes again in White Men Can't Jump (1992) and yet again in 1995 in Money Train. The year 1993 brought him another big break with a starring role opposite Demi Moore and Robert Redford in Indecent Proposal. In 1994, he put in a hair-raising performance with Juliette Lewis in Natural Born Killers. He pulled another star turn in The People vs. Larry Flynt. That same year, 1996, he was in Kingpin and The Sunchaser and received an Academy Award nod for his portrayal of Larry Flynt. 1997 was another big year with Wag the Dog and Welcome to Sarajevo, followed in 1998 by The Thin Red Line, Palmetto and The Hi-Lo Country. He did several more movies over the next few years, including Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Anger Management, A Scanner Darkly and A Prairie Home Companion. In 2007 he appeared in The Walker, No Country for Old Men, Battle in Seattle and The Grand. He has five projects in the works for 2008.

Sun in Leo guarantees Woody is proud, with the grit and guts to bring his dreams into being. He also has a righteous, idealistic spirit and an appreciation for the dramatic and extravagant. He loves wholeheartedly and knows how to keep the romance alive in his relationships. Immensely loyal, he will defend his loved ones to the end. However, he does not share the lead role very easily. His ideal mate is as strong-willed as he is, but will not try to compete with him. Woody lives in Hawaii with his wife, Laura Louie and their daughters, Deni, Zoe and Makani -- also known to their adoring parents as The Goddess Trilogy. On their website, VoiceYourself, Woody and Laura put their powerful commitment to helping Mother Earth into action. He refers to Laura (along with Julia Butterfly and Granny D. Haddock) as 'one of my heroes.'

With his Sun in the 10th house, Woody's career and public image are very important to him. He has a strong desire to make his mark on the world. Sun trine Moon tells us he enjoys the support of family and friends for his creative efforts and personal goals. This allows him to satisfy his need to be an individual, as well as his need for caring relationships and a sense of belonging. He is in harmony with himself and is therefore very effective. Sun opposite Jupiter means he aims high, dreams big and has a tremendous sense of what is possible. Business, especially when there is an element of risk and speculation, suits him well. However, he does not rely on good luck or grace alone; he accepts the need for hard work. Sun opposite Saturn reveals he may have had a demanding or absent father. Indeed, his father died serving a life sentence in prison. In any case, a lack of support and approval, a great deal of responsibility at an early age and an underlying feeling that he can never quite measure up may hold him back. Sun conjunct Venus/Mars makes him both sensitive and sensuous, a blend of charm and energy. He has a healthy sexuality and a good balance between activity and passivity. Not that it needs to be said, but the stars do say he may be fond of singing, dancing, music and drama.

Moon in Sagittarius makes him open and generous. He enjoys a wide circle of friends and thrives on camaraderie. He is bold, lighthearted, freedom-loving and always ready for a good time. He rarely allows difficulties to keep him down, for no matter how bleak the past or present, he always expects a brighter future. Rather uncomfortable with his own or other people's problems and emotional pain, he often tries to offer philosophical advice to those who are hurting, inadvertently ignoring the emotions involved. Friendship means a great deal to him, perhaps even more than love or romance. For him to be happy, his mate must be his best friend and encourage his aspirations and ideals. He has clearly found this in Laura and their shared commitment to Mother Earth, stating that they see the ongoing destruction of all that is natural and want to make a difference. 'Our mission at Voice Yourself is to connect you with others, to share information about alternatives -- biodiesel, sustainable clothing companies (i.e. hemp, organic cotton and bamboo) and to get clean and natural cleansers into your hands and homes. This is only the beginning. Our small, extended family will spread out across the world like good music. Thank you for contributing to the dream that we know exists. Our time is now.'

Moon in the 2nd house means a sense of security and continuity with the past is important to him. Moon sextile Jupiter says that he is generally optimistic, with a cheering effect on those around him. He likes and needs people, and others genuinely like him too. He enjoys a wide circle of friends, including Owen Wilson, Michael J. Fox and Hootie and the Blowfish's Jim 'Soni' Sonefeld, who are like family to him. Entertaining and fellowship are essential ingredients for his emotional well-being. However, Moon square Pluto reveals that he undergoes periodic emotional upheavals and purging, when he must break all ties, release the past and begin anew.

Libra rising means he is a natural diplomat, always willing to listen to differing opinions and ready to see the opposite side of an issue. Even if he strongly disagrees with someone, he will try to find points of agreement. He has a strong desire for harmonious relationships and conveys a spirit of teamwork, friendship and fairness. His need to create harmony extends to his physical environment. He eats only raw vegetables and is a dedicated hemp and environmental activist, saying, 'I began to speak for the trees because forests house so many species of plants, insects and animals necessary for the balance of our planet. After finding that over half of all the trees cut in America were cut for paper and that until the late 1800s, 90 percent of the world's paper came from hemp as it is the longest and strongest natural fiber, I knew I had found the ultimate sustainable crop. The importance of the fight to make hemp legal cannot be over-emphasized. Hemp is synonymous with sustainability and the fight for freedom.'
