Will Smith

Will Smith
September 25, 1968
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

This triple Libra is both idealistic and realistic.

'My grandmother once told me, Don't let failure go to your heart and don't let success go to your head.'

Will Smith's Tarot Reading

Will Smith was born in Philadelphia to Caroline and Willard C. Smith, Sr. His dad was a business owner and his mom worked for the local school board. He has two sisters and a brother: Pam is older, and twins Ellen and Harry are younger. He grew up in a middle-class neighborhood and attended Overbrook High School in Winfield, Pennsylvania. He went on to the prominent Julia Reynolds Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia. He decided to pursue a music career instead of attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, even though he was offered a scholarship to MIT.

He and music partner Jeff Townes began playing together as 'DJ Jazzy Jeff' and 'the Fresh Prince' after meeting at a party. They were an instant success. As the first artists to scratch records in the early '80s, they started a trend in hip-hop.

In 1990, NBC began producing Will in the TV comedy series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Another success, the show ran for six years.

He appeared in a number of films while Fresh Prince was on the air, including Six Degrees of Separation (1993), Bad Boys (1995) and Independence Day (1996).

As the first hip-hop artist to be nominated for an Oscar, he talked about his transition from rap to acting. 'It's a whole different thing being an actor. A rapper is about being completely true to yourself. Being an actor is about changing who you are. You make yourself a different person. You become a different person.'

Will has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his part in The Pursuit of Happyness (2006). He plays Chris Gardner, 'a loving father who struggles to care for his young son while trying to regain his financial footing after becoming homeless.' His real-life son, Jaden, plays the Gardner's son.

This is the second Best Actor Academy Award nomination for Will. He was previously nominated for Ali (2001).

In 2005, Premiere magazine assigned him the Number 44 spot on its list of the Greatest Movie Stars of All Time.

Sun in Libra means harmony and balance are Will's keynotes. He instinctively understands the need to accommodate other people's interests. He is always willing to meet the other person halfway. With considerable social awareness, he does all he can to avoid conflict. He expresses a spirit of cooperation and often achieves through charm what would have been impossible by a more forceful approach.

That said, getting along with his peers may be too important to him. Without the counsel of others, he may be reluctant to move forward. He likes to share and do things with a partner.

He has a powerful need for an intimate one-to-one relationship, saying, 'I really believe that a man and a woman together, raising a family, is the purest form of happiness we can experience.'

He pours a great deal of energy into love and is very idealistic and romantic about marriage. He and Jada Pinkett Smith were married in 1997. 'You're so much stronger when your partner is strong,' says Will. 'I honestly believe there is no woman for me but Jada. Of all the women I've met -- and there've been a few -- no one can handle me the way Jada does. Once you feel someone locked in on you, it's no contest. As fine as other women can be, as tempting sexually, I'm not going anywhere. This is it. I can't imagine what anyone else could offer.'

Fairness and equality, both in his personal life and in the world, are extremely important to Will. If he fights about anything, it is about something he feels is unfair.

Sun conjunct Uranus makes him original and unorthodox. He identifies with the role of reformer. He insists upon a great deal of personal freedom and needs a lifestyle that allows him to be spur-of-the-moment. He tends to feel that he is somehow different -- outside the mainstream of society.

Mercury in Libra shows that one of his greatest assets is his ability to see both sides of an issue, to negotiate and bring about compromise. He insists upon fairness and his diplomacy is a benefit in any situation.

Mercury conjunct Venus says he appreciates aesthetics. Talking about Star Wars, he once said, 'I might have been eight or nine. That was the movie that put me into a space where the science fiction element was almost a spiritual connection for me. I thought, if someone could imagine that and then put it on a screen and make me feel like that ... my entire career I've been trying to make people feel like Star Wars made me feel.'

Mercury opposition Saturn means he scrutinizes and analyzes concepts before he accepts them. He may seem unreceptive to others' thoughts, particularly if they are poorly thought out. He prefers serious conversations to lighthearted banter. He thinks carefully before speaking and wishes others would too.

With Venus in Libra he possesses the gifts of courtesy, consideration and a strong desire to please his love partner. In love, he wants an equal and a friend. He is attracted to people who have considerable refinement.

In 1992, he married Sheree Smith. They were divorced in 1995 and have a son Willard 'Trey' Smith III. He and Jada have been married since December 31, 1997. They have two children, Jaden and Willow.

Mars in Virgo suggests he is a perfectionist with high standards for his own work. Doing a task well is very important to him and he may labor over minute details that others wouldn't bother with. 'If you're not willing to work hard, let someone else do it,' says Will. 'I'd rather be with someone who does a horrible job, but gives 110 percent than with someone who does a good job and gives 60 percent.' He is modest in assessing what he can accomplish and gradually gains self-confidence as he develops expertise.

Jupiter in Virgo gives him the ability to think things through clearly, to analyze and understand the smallest details of any plan. He enjoys working and is happiest when he is being productive. Jupiter conjunct Pluto shows he aims high and strives to position himself in a manner that will ensure success. His broad perspective and vision promise him an influential position in life.

'I love being black in America, and especially being black in Hollywood.'
