will.i.amwill.i.am This multi-talented Pisces knows how to transform compassion into positive action. 'I like experiencing things I've never experienced before. It brings you out of your comfort zone and that can be creatively inspiring.' William James Adams, Jr., better known as will.i.am, is a music producer as well as a performer. Best known for fronting hip hop group The Black Eyed Peas, he gained even wider recognition when he came out with 'Yes We Can,' a song based on a speech by presidential candidate Barack Obama. Directed by Jesse Dylan, the video features will.i.am, Scarlett Johansson, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Common, Kate Walsh and Kareem Abdul Jabbar, among many other celebrities. He was brought up in East Los Angeles by a single mom. As he tells it, 'I was just a kid in the projects that'd listen to the music loud.' From there he went on to make music of his own. The Black Eyed Peas' first two albums, Behind the Front and Bridging the Gap, came out in 1998 and 2000, respectively. In 2003 they broke new ground with Elephunk, selling 7.5 million albums internationally and taking home a Grammy. Their next album, Monkey Business was 'produced and recorded during The Black Eyed Peas everlasting road trip,' says will.i.am. 'I remember that we were each talking about the things that were haunting us and seemed to be crippling us.' Around this time Fergie joined the band, which included original members apl.de.ap (Allan Pineda Lindo) and Taboo (Jaime Luis G'mez) and the four of them used the music as therapy. 'This was really about all of us building a house together.' And what a house it is. The Black Eyed Peas are among a select few musicians to work with the Godfather of Soul and the creator of Funk, Mr. James Brown. About the collaboration he says, 'Being a fan of hip-hop and knowing that the music's backbone is based entirely on James Brown -- the concept of hitting the beat on the 'one,' it's an otherworldly experience.' Will.i.am started out as a designer of clothing. He studied in Los Angeles at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. He has his own line, i.am, which he began in 2001 and launched in Las Vegas in 2005. He has designed a denim collection with Blue Holdings and has also created costumes for 'The Peas.' He and partner Lor-e Phillips most recently designed a line of funky uniforms for Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos. Sun in Pisces tells us he is impressionable and receptive -- a dreamer. The world of his imagination is as real to him as anything in the outer world. Mystical, artistic, musical, emotional and imaginative, he has a rich inner life, though he may seem rather quiet outwardly. He has great sensitivity and empathy with others and often senses things intuitively which turn out to be correct. He is tolerant and nonjudgmental, accepting people unconditionally regardless of their flaws. He has deep compassion for the suffering of any fellow creature and often feels the pain of others as if it were his own. He sympathizes with the needy, the disadvantaged and the misfits of society and is capable of giving selflessly, living a life of devoted and compassionate service. However, he tends to give indiscriminately, to let others take advantage of his kindness and to encourage the weak to remain so by becoming dependent upon him. He is a lover and a peacemaker -- not a fighter -- who tries to avoid open conflict. He will patiently ignore problems and hope they go away by themselves rather than directly confront them. Fluid, open and somewhat passive, he does things in a subtle way. With limitless inspiration and imagination, his gifts lie in the realm of the creative, artistic and musical. He responds very strongly to beauty and to love. Sun conjunct Jupiter tells us he is blessed with optimism and cheerful generosity. His good will and friendliness win him many allies. Proof of this can be found in the long list of musicians he has worked with as a producer, including Carlos Santana, John Legend, Pussycat Dolls, Mary J. Blige, Sergio Mendes, Busta Rhymes, Justin Timberlake, Diddy, Fergie, Common, Macy Gray and Michael Jackson, to name but a few. He has grand vision and the desire to succeed in a big way. He expects the best, and usually gets it. Moon in Aries tells us that emotional outbursts are frequent due to his fiery temper and emotional impulsiveness. He expresses himself honestly and no one has to guess what his true feelings are. However, he dislikes showing any personal weakness or need for support. He can be impatient with himself and others, abhors emotional dependency and dislikes whiners. Rather, he inspires others to take positive action in their lives by his own enthusiasm and eagerness to meet life's challenges. He is attracted to people who are adventurous, courageous and independent. He can be rather bossy, but does not like to hang out with people he can boss around. In contrast to his Sun sign, his Moon says he enjoys a good fight once in a while. Relationships built upon mutual respect and emotional freedom are ideal for him. He may get cranky without adequate physical activity and will feel his best if he engages regularly in a competitive sport. Moon in the 11th house says he gets a lot of emotional fulfillment through his involvement in groups, community activities or a network of close friends who support and care for him. Friends are family to him, and he feels a close kinship with people who share his ideals and beliefs. Before he signed up for the Obama campaign, his need for this type of connection came out in a November 15, 2007 interview in Rolling Stone where he said, 'Music is a social thing, it hits you personally, and then you socialize about it. It just so happens when people were rebelling in the 1960s, they revolted and rebelled over music. Now there's things for people to rebel and revolt about, but people ain't revolting and rebelling because there's no leaders. There's no Malcolm Xs or Martin Luther Kings or Ghandis, there's nobody now.' Moon conjunct Venus reveals that no matter how he appears on the surface, he has a soft heart and others can always appeal to his sympathetic side. He especially cares about the needs of children, mothers and families, and wants a love partner who values marriage, home and family as much as he does. Those feelings also come out in his songs, especially in his most recent work in which he expresses regret over a relationship that ended badly. Where she go Gemini rising means he is always questioning and learning. He seems young and alive no matter what his chronological age, for his mind is always alert and curious. He has a childlike enthusiasm for anything new and he learns easily. He also gets bored rather quickly. He can be something of a scatterbrain, for he tends to have so many irons in the fire that it's hard to keep track of them all. He needs mental stimulation and an active social life. Articulate and witty, he is a refreshing conversationalist who enjoys interacting with a variety of people. He is friendly, flirtatious and charming in a light, playful way. No matter how badly he may be feeling he never appears heavy or somber. He has a sense of humor and a sense of perspective that prevents him from taking himself or life too seriously. His life is likely to be full of change due to his restlessness. He becomes nervous and fidgety if things are not moving quickly enough. He is interested in what is current and up-to-date, the newest trends in thought or style. His gifts are a quick mind, verbal facility, a flair for language and social sophistication. He has the ability to communicate and build bridges between people and ideas: 'I think the fact that we just have fun with music is the reason why it works for us. We love music and melodies and don't try to distinguish ourselves from regular music fans. It's really that simple.' |
