Tommy LeeTommy Lee This double Libra may have let his bad boy image get a little out of control. 'I'm not a maniac.' Motley Crue drummer Thomas Lee Bass was born in Athens to Vassilikki Papadimitriou, Miss Greece of 1957, and David Lee Thomas Bass, a Welsh Army sergeant. His sister, Athena, drummer for the rock band Krunk, is married to Scorpions drummer, James Kottak. Tommy Lee attended Royal Oak High School in Covina, California with Vince Neil, the band's lead singer. Tommy and bass player Nikki Sixx co-founded Motley Crue in 1981. 'Nikki lives around the corner from me and I see him all the time,' says Tommy. 'We talk a lot, and of course we're still friends. That was our baby, Motley Crue, we put that band together.' With his Sun in Libra, harmony and balance are Tommy Lee's keynotes. Very fair-minded, he instinctively understands the need to accommodate other people's interests and is always willing to meet the other person half way. With considerable social awareness, he does all he can to avoid discord. He expresses a spirit of cooperation and often achieves through charisma and diplomacy what would have been impossible using a forceful approach. Getting along with others may be too important to him, for he can become dependent on their opinions. 'I think in the last year or so I've gotten good at ... just doing what I do and not thinking about everybody else so much,' he says. However, he will rarely act without getting feedback from other people. These are traits he showed in abundance on the TV reality show and talent contest, Rock Star: Supernova, hosted by Dave Navarro and Brooke Burke. In the second season of the show, fifteen contestants tried out for the role of lead singer in the new band, Rock Star Supernova with former Guns 'n' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, former Metallica bass player Jason Newsted and Tommy Lee on drums. He prefers sharing and doing things with others rather than on his own. Being alone feels very unnatural to Tommy, and he has a strong need for a partner and intimate one-to-one relationships. He often puts these feelings into songs like 'I Need You.' I need you in my blacker days He invests a great deal of his energy in love. He seeks a partner who is his equal intellectually and who is capable of a mental relationship as well as a physical and emotional one. Relationships are like an art to Tommy, one that requires time, attention and creative effort. He appreciates a partner who is subtle and polished. Fairness and equality, both in his personal life and in the world, are extremely important to him. If he fights about anything, it is often about something he feels is unfair and unbalanced. With a strong need for harmonious surroundings, he also has a natural sense of artistic style, which is reflected in the way he dresses and furnishes his home and workspace. Sun trine Saturn indicates that he is realistic and practical. He sets goals for himself that he can actually achieve. He is able to tackle long, difficult projects and see them through, for he has self-discipline, concentration and perseverance. About his recording technique, Tommy says, 'Once the song is done and recorded, I like to go back and then cut the drums, because then I know exactly what the song needs, and what it doesn't need.' He also has a strong sense of responsibility and is very conscientious in fulfilling his obligations. He often does things because he feels it is expected of him. 'There's Tommy, Tommy Lee the rock star, and Tommy the dad,' he says. 'I'm wearing several hats these days.' With Mercury in Libra one of his greatest assets is his ability to see both sides of an issue and to negotiate to bring about compromise and reconciliation. Objective and unbiased, he makes an excellent mediator -- with a flair for public relations. He insists upon fairness and seeks to bring harmony or at least peaceful coexistence between people. Mercury conjunct Venus/Pluto reveals that his sexuality probably developed early in life and problems of love could be on his mind a lot. He may adopt a somewhat showy and flirtatious way of speech and the subject of sex may come up repeatedly in his conversations. Again, this was obvious in his interplay with co-stars and contestants on Rock Star: Supernova. While Uranus conjunct Sun/Mars makes Tommy a bit self-willed and emotionally uptight, he also has a sparkling personality. He probably will be involved in many unusual liaisons and tends to end romances suddenly -- although maybe not as suddenly as he sometimes begins them, having married Pamela Anderson four days after meeting her. 'Getting married in four days was the biggest ... mistake I've ever made,' admits Tommy. 'I have two beautiful kids, but ... how can you know somebody in four days? Bonehead.' He's been married three times, altogether. In April of 1984 he married Elaine Irwin Bergen. They were divorced the following month. He was married to Heather Locklear from May of 1986 until August of 1993. He and Pamela Anderson were married in February of 1995, divorced in February of 1998. They have two sons, Brandon and Dylan, and share joint custody. Venus in Scorpio dictates that he desires an intense, passionate union with his beloved and merges with her at a profound level. He can be very demanding of his partner and tends to be suspicious of any platonic relationship she may have. If he is ever betrayed, he is capable of hating with as much intensity as he once loved, as shown in the song, 'Watch You Lose.' The last of you is left of me However, Venus trine Mars means that he is warmly romantic and openly expresses his love for the opposite sex. Again, he puts his feelings to music in the song, 'Makin' Me Crazy.' Seasons change He also enjoys playing matchmaker and bringing people together romantically. Fulfillment and harmony in love is possible for him because he knows what he wants and needs and expresses his desires honestly. With Venus opposition Jupiter/N. Node his attitude is positive and he impresses others as a caring person. 'The main thing, I guess, is to be really very compassionate with everyone,' says Tommy. He is friendly and pleasant when he is with other people and is capable of having a very happy family life. Mars in Cancer reveals that he avoids direct confrontation as much as possible and may be uncomfortable with competition and personal power. The only instance in which he will really fight is when he feels his loved ones are being harmed, and then he is a fierce defender. He has an exceptionally strong protective side. He acts on impulse and instinct and may lash out at anyone he perceives as threatening to his home or family. However, he will rarely initiate a confrontation. His goals tend to be very personal and centered around family closeness and inner satisfaction rather than worldly achievement. He is sensitive to stress and does not handle a high-pressured atmosphere very well. He can be irritable and difficult to live with when there is tension at work. His energy level is inconstant and very much dependent upon the emotional harmony (or lack of it) in his home. A supportive partner would be of great benefit to him in helping him reach his goals. Pluto conjunct Mercury/N. Node discloses that he has a strong desire to be intellectually outstanding and his words of wisdom are likely to be heard by many. Persuading or influencing others is easy for him, but he is also inclined to be ruthless at times. On the other hand, Jupiter in Pisces shows that his ability to empathize and identify with others makes him unwilling to take advantage of or hurt anyone. He cares about the underdog. With Jupiter opposition Uranus his exuberance and joie de vivre generate many opportunities for him. He enjoys being spontaneous and taking risks. He needs a great deal of personal freedom rather than a rigid, structured lifestyle. His sense of humor and playfulness enable him to make it through the rough spots in life. In 1998, Tommy received a six-month jail sentence for parole violation, after a spousal abuse charge was dropped. He also had to do anger management therapy. He describes the experience in the song, 'Anger Management,' recorded with Methods of Mahem, a 'rap metal' group he formed in 1999 with rapper TiLo, during a brief hiatus from Motley Crue. Now I see what's on the real Methods of Mayhem was Tommy's first solo project, which he put together right before his divorce from Pamela Anderson. Much of it was written in jail. About this he has said, 'Imagine how frustrating it is, being completely locked up and watching your family leave, your wife and children, and not being able to do anything about it.' However, he is philosophical about the experience, as well, saying, 'It sounds kind of strange, but jail time was almost a good experience for me.' Saturn in Aquarius gives him an innate distrust of groups and a cynical attitude toward society that may leave him feeling out of step with his peers. Saturn quincunx Uranus indicates that the side of him that needs structure and stability is at odds with his urge for freedom, excitement and discovery. Feeling a great deal of discontent and tension because of this he may act out in rebellious ways or clamp down hard on himself in an attempt to control his 'wild' impulses. Needing to find a reasonable balance between order and creative chaos, his solution is simple: 'It's all about the music. For me, that's truly what I live for. Just music constantly. Always listening to, writing or playing music. That's definitely me.' Tommy is part of a 14 year group with Neptune in Scorpio who have intense psychic sensitivity. His age group is very attracted to the strange, weird and unusual. A sense of the macabre and bizarre is strong, and is reflected in the music, art and fashion of his age group. Depression, drug use and suicide are likely to be high. 'There's a couple of really dangerous drugs out there and I've lost some friends to them,' warns Tommy. 'I got it: stay away from cocaine and heroin.' There is also a deep mystical sense and Eastern religions and meditation are very attractive to his age group. There's a noticeable touch of this in the Methods of Mayhem song, 'Metamorphosis.' A seed becomes a flower, a cocoon becomes |
