Tina Turner

Birth Details:
November 26, 1939

Nutbush, Tennessee

'We Don't Need Another Hero' -- we've already got Tina Turner on the scene. This amazing songstress began belting out tunes and showing off her moves while still in high school in St. Louis, Missouri in the 1950s. Teaming up with Ike Turner, she started as a backup singer in his band, which soon became the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. The two married and toured the U.S., earning popularity and a gig as opening act for the Rolling Stones in 1969. While their music careers were reaching great heights, however, their marriage was crumbling, and Ike began to show his domineering (read: violent) side. In 1976, Tina walked out on Ike and into a wildly successful solo career. Battling her way back to the top of the charts, she made it big with several hits, including 'Private Dancer,' 'The Best,' 'What's Love Got to Do With It' and 'We Don't Need Another Hero.' With a successful autobiography that was later adapted for the big box-office movie What's Love Got to Do With It (starring Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne), Tina Turner has become an American icon. So what's in the stars that makes this talent so enduringly successful?

With her Sun shining in Sagittarius, Turner is an enthusiastic, outspoken and adventurous woman. She's in tune with the bigger picture and has a philosophical bent. The basic truths in life are what a true Sagittarius seeks, and Turner has infectious optimism to boot. Don't fence this woman in! She needs the freedom to roam and pursue her own path. In fact, Turner has not one but three planets in Sagittarius, which could explain the fondness for travel that led her to settle down in Europe. Along the way, though, idealism may color her view, and she might get pushy when it comes to carrying out her agenda.

Tina Turner's Tarot Reading

It's not surprising that a woman who used to carefully critique tapes of her own performances has Leo rising. The Lion lends this stunning performer great pride, and she gains confidence and self-awareness from having all eyes on her. Turner has parlayed that head-turning dramatic flair into superstardom, and she continues to take impeccable care of her famous appearance -- including those world-famous legs!

But, speaking of legs, Turner is also adept at putting herself in other people's shoes and demonstrates a strong awareness of those around her. That sensitivity is due in no small part to her birth just hours before a full Moon; combined with a Sagittarius Sun, her Moon in Gemini helps make Turner the mentally-active truth-seeker she is today.

The planet of communication, Mercury, also finds itself keeping house with Sagittarius. Mercury in Sag marks someone who isn't afraid to pipe up but might speak a bit too quickly without first thinking over her words. Small talk is for other folks, not for Turner; it's the bigger truths in life, especially philosophy and spirituality, that matter to her. Her Mercury's trine to Pluto lends Turner that sharp, curious mind and ensures that this woman won't beat around the bush. A square between Mercury and Mars, though, leaves Turner a little high-strung; she requires lots of movement and exercise to work off her nervous energy -- a fact to which anyone who has seen her on stage can readily attest!

With Venus in Sagittarius, Turner is adventurous in relationships and attracted to men that she perceives as different or unusual -- which might explain her long relationship with a man 16 years her junior. The two have never married, though, which isn't surprising given the romantic independence that this placement also indicates. With Venus square Jupiter, Turner enjoys comfort but may be extravagant and even excessive, particularly in her expressions of affection. Her Venus also squares Neptune, the planet of illusion, and adds a rose-colored haze to relationships. Fantasy and make-believe could cloud her vision of her mate.

With Mars, the planet of passion, lying in chameleonic Pisces, Turner may appear quite different depending on where she finds herself -- and when. This element of her chart might also suggest a tendency to evade, escape or deny anything unpleasant. But as long as she keeps striving to stand up for herself and her strongly held beliefs, Tina Turner is poised to continue becoming 'simply the best.'
