Samuel L. Jackson's Tarot Reading

Sun in Sagittarius:

Samuel Leroy Jackson was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he lived with his mother, Elizabeth Jackson and his maternal grandparents. He was an only child but grew up with a large extended family.

From third grade to graduation, Samuel played French horn and trumpet in his school symphony orchestras. After graduation, he went to Moorehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Speech classes led him to try out for a play and he wound up changing his major to dramatic arts. He co-founded the black-oriented Just Us Theatre.

In 1968, Jackson was an usher at the funeral for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. held on campus at Moorehouse. The following year he was suspended from the college after taking a group of board trustees, and inadvertently Dr. King's father, hostage during a student protest. He returned to Moorehouse and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. While still in college, he acted in his first film: Together for Days.

In 1980, he married actress LaTanya Richardson. They have one daughter, Zoe who was born in 1982. In May of 2004 Jackson spoke at Zoe's graduation from Vassar College. He and LaTanya are still together.

In the late eighties Jackson earned his street creds in three Spike Lee movies: Do the Right Thing, Mo' Better Blues and Jungle Fever. In 1995, after playing a string of addicts and thugs, he graduated to action hero in Die Hard: With a Vengeance and again the following year in The Long Kiss Goodnight.

Samuel L. Jackson was 46 years old when Pulp Fiction came out. He received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Jules Winnfield. Regarding his character's look, Jackson says, 'Quentin Tarantino wanted Jules to have a big afro. He sent this PA out to buy a wig. She went to South Central and bought this jeri-curl wig. Quentin was going off, saying, 'It's got to be an afro' because he had this whole blaxploitation thing. I told him, 'that's the South Central look. You look at Ice Cube and NWA ....' I had already grown the sideburns out and the mustache. It was perfect. Total Gangster.'

Jackson's performance in Pulp Fiction stands at number 41 on Premiere Magazine's list of 100 Greatest Performances of All Time and number 44 on its list of the 100 Greatest Movie Characters of All Time. Jules Winnfield is the second-coolest movie character of all time, according to a poll by the UK's Empire Magazine.

After dropping a hint on British TV that he'd enjoy working with George Lucas, Jackson got the opportunity to play Jedi Knight, Mace Windu in Star Wars: Episodes I - III.

A proper Sagittarian, Jackson loves to take the untried path rather than the safe, reliable one. He's an independent, freedom-loving soul and an incurable optimist. He has big dreams and a great deal of faith. With his playful attitude toward life, failures don't even begin to crush his spirit.

He expresses himself in a direct, blunt way. Regarding his character's death in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, Jackson says, 'I don't mind dying, I just don't wanna go out like some punk.' Because he doesn't take himself too seriously, he may seem insensitive to others but he greatly enjoys friendship and camaraderie, especially with people who share his sense of fun.

True to his nature, Jackson cannot and will not be forced into any pre-set mold. His offbeat interests invariably lead to ventures that others consider too far-out. Can you say Snakes on a Plane?

With Mercury in Capricorn Jackson is realistic. He maintains objectivity even in the midst of crises. Anyone seeking advice from him is certain to get an unbiased assessment. He has a good head for business and enjoys quiet time alone for thinking and reading.

Mercury Trine Saturn gives Samuel excellent powers of concentration. Highly rational, he gets right down to the bare bones in any discussion and is quick to see the weakness in another's logic. He enjoys working on problems that others consider too tedious or technical. He is generally in a positive frame of mind and has the ability to express himself well.

Venus in Sagittarius indicates that Jackson requires companionship and friendship with a partner who is fun-loving and open to adventure; he wants someone who enjoys traveling, meeting new people and making new friends as much as he does. He needs a spiritual or intellectual rapport with his love partner, perhaps more than the emotional/physical relationship. With Venus Quincunx Uranus he wants both closeness and absolute freedom -- a difficult combination to attain.

He is not especially sentimental but Jupiter Conjunct Sun/Mars gives him a charming and harmonious disposition, especially in matters of the heart. He enjoys his loved ones with complete ease and has little difficulty showing affection to people who are important to him.

Mars in Capricorn means that Jackson is serious about his ambitions and disciplined in pursuing them. He completed drug rehab two weeks before playing a crack addict in Jungle Fever.

In an interview in the March 2006 issue of Premiere Magazine, he said, 'Spike told me he was doing this Marvin Gaye-like story and he wanted me to be the kind of junkie son. And it just so happened I was smoking crack at the time. I was killing myself and I ended up going to rehab right before it happened. And they were like, 'No, it's cool, you'll be out in time.' So everything worked out. The success I was having before that versus the success I had after ... I was kind of flat-lined in a certain place and doing drugs, but when I stopped, I did Jungle Fever, which was, you know, cathartic. Once Ossie Davis killed that character, it gave me a chance to kill that part of my life and start on an upward kind of path. It's very clear to me that I was in my own way. And once I got out of my way ... it was all right. Yeah.'

About his recovery he says, 'I can't say to myself, 'I haven't had a drink in 15 years, I could have a glass of champagne and be OK.' That might be true, but history says when I opened that bottle of champagne, I sat there and drank it until it was gone. People who've been through what I went through are always going to be tempted. I enjoyed drinking and I enjoyed taking drugs. But I have to remind myself every day that I can't have a drink.'

Jackson's drive and energy are directed toward practical material accomplishment. He's no gambler when it comes to his goals. His natural instinct for business put him on Forbes Celebrity 100 list twice in a row. In 2002, he earned 34 million dollars and in 2003, he pulled in 30 million dollars. As of 2006, according to his website, his films have grossed more money than any other actor in cinematic history.

An avid golfer, Jackson says, 'To be frank, I am as passionate about golf as I am about acting. I very seldom get angry at golf. The year I started golf I had a caddie and one day I did get angry with myself and threw a club. My caddie told me, 'You're not good enough to get mad.' I have never thrown a club since. I enjoy my golf, it does not matter whether I play great or badly. I let it go.'
