Ryan GoslingRyan Gosling This double Scorpio can be mesmerizing as he acts out his fantasies. 'I've gotten more opportunities out of working on things I believed in than I ever did on things that weren't special to me.' Ryan Thomas Gosling was born in the Canadian town of London, Ontario to Donna and Thomas Gosling. He has an older sister named Mandi. The family moved to Cornwall, also located in Ontario, where Ryan and Mandi grew up. A Mormon, Ryan was home-schooled by his mother after being tormented by other elementary school students. The Goslings moved once more, to Burlington, Ontario where Ryan attended Lester B. Pearson High School. His show business career began when he and Mandi sang in talent shows as children. In 1993 he tried out for the Mickey Mouse Club. Seventeen-thousand other kids tried out at the same time, but Ryan got the part. He moved in with fellow MCC star Justin Timberlake and Justin's mom for two years while working on the show. He went on to perform in a number of TV programs, including Breaker High (1997) and Young Hercules (1998-1999). Next came a string of films: Remember the Titans (2000) with Denzel Washington, The Believer (2001) with Summer Phoenix, The Slaughter Rule (2002) and Murder by Numbers (2002) with Sandra Bullock. His performance in writer-director Henry Bean's The Believer won him considerable acclaim, including an Independent Spirit Award nomination as Best Male Lead. He won a Golden Aries award from the Russian Guild of Film Critics for his portrayal of Danny Balint, an anti-Semitic member of the KKK who is found out to be Jewish. He was in Nick Cassavetes' The Notebook (2004) along with Gena Rowlands and James Garner. Ryan received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of Dan Dunne, 'a teacher and basketball coach struggling with a drug problem as he attempts to mentor a talented young girl' in Ryan Fleck's Half Nelson (2006). This is his first Oscar nomination. Sun in Scorpio tells us that Ryan is reserved, mysterious and psychologically convoluted. He is quite vulnerable but careful not to show it. Relying on instinct and intuition, he is like a wary animal -- mistrustful of people he doesn't know until he 'sniffs them out.' Forming intense love bonds, he needs profound emotional attachment. When he pledges himself he is completely faithful and requires the same in return. Separations can be extremely painful for him. When someone hurts him, he is not inclined to turn the other cheek. Certainly he will never forget the injury and often harbors resentments for a long time. He does everything with zeal and often goes to extremes. 'I always wanted to entertain,' he recalls. 'When I was 6, a scrawny, scrawny kid, I'd get in my red Speedo and do muscle moves. I actually thought I was muscular. I didn't know everyone was laughing at me.' He is enormously determined and his doggedness in chasing his dreams can be fanatical. Fierce pride, courage and emotional strength are his in abundance. Attracted to the covert side of life, he will dig beneath the surface of people and situations to discover what is really going on. Sun conjunct Uranus means Ryan is innovative and unorthodox. He insists upon a great deal of personal freedom and needs a lifestyle that allows him to be spontaneous. 'I think that something interesting comes out when you do something that you're afraid of', reveals the actor, 'so I try to take things that I'm not sure I can do.' Sun conjunct Moon/Jupiter gives him a peace-loving nature with an optimistic outlook on life. He comes across as happy, bighearted and popular. He also has a good business sense and likes to carry out enterprises on a large scale. Sun conjunct Venus/Mars makes him both sensitive and sensuous, blending charm and energy. He has a healthy sexuality and a good balance between activity and passivity. He may be fond of singing, dancing, music and drama. Romance comes easily to him and his romantic relationships are passionate. With Mercury in Scorpio he has the ability to become completely immersed in his work. He seems to know things at an instinctive level and likes to learn through direct experience. He relates well with animals. Mercury conjunct Sun/Venus means he has a charming disposition and loves to socialize and meet new people. He also likes to be surrounded by beautiful things and to discuss his views on love, beauty, fashion and art. Mercury conjunct Venus/Uranus means he has an eye for artistic work and has the ability to set his thoughts and feelings in motion. He can be a spellbinder. Venus in Libra shows he is endowed with the gifts of tact, courtesy and the desire to please and understand his love partner. Because he values harmony so much, he will concede a great deal to avoid conflict. He does not like to dwell on contentious subjects and will try to smooth things over instead. With Venus conjunct Saturn/Pluto he has great self-discipline and knows exactly what he can demand of himself. His love relationships are inclined to have a lot of problems and at times he may wish to retreat to a life of solitude and seclusion. In his words, 'The theme for me is love and the lack of it. We all want that and we don't know how to get it, and everything we do is some kind of attempt to capture it for ourselves.' Mars in Sagittarius indicates he is forever following a bright and distant star. He aims high and likes to stretch his limits. He is a positive thinker, expects success for himself, and is philosophical about failures. His enthusiasm and confidence are contagious. 'You know how sometimes department stores have these things where, if you win, you get 10 minutes and go in and take anything you want from the store? That's basically what I'm doing,' says Ryan. 'I'm running in and just trying to grab as many characters as possible before they pull the plug on me.' He enjoys competition without taking it too seriously. Sports and entrepreneurial endeavors are good ways to channel his energy. Mars conjunct Neptune means he has a very active and fertile imagination and his ambitions are never strictly mundane. He has a strong desire to act out his fantasies. Artistic creation and drama are excellent for him. With Jupiter in Libra his strengths lie in his ability to cooperate, to be diplomatic and to know just what behavior is called for. He possesses a strong sense of fairness and the willingness to listen to opposing viewpoints. Jupiter conjunct Sun/N. Node makes him generous, tactful and sociable. It also gives him an inner need for public recognition. His integration into the community is harmonious and because of this, he is likely to achieve success in public life. Saturn in Libra means he takes his personal relationships so seriously that they may seem more like work than a free sharing. He may feel that relationships in general require more of him than they are worth, and he enters into any close relationship cautiously. With Jupiter conjunct Saturn his aspirations and dreams are always tempered by realism and practical considerations. He is willing to take his time, advancing slowly and steadily on his way to his goals. 'I've learned it's important not to limit yourself. You can do whatever you really love to do, no matter what it is.' Bio information from www.IMDb.com |
