Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio, of German and Italian heritage, is the son of Irmelin and George DiCaprio. A year after he was born, his parents divorced. He was raised in Echo Park, a once-tough part of Los Angeles.

'My mom and I lived at Hollywood and Western, a drug-dealer and prostitute corner,' recalls Leonardo. 'It was pretty terrifying. I got beat up a lot. I saw people have sex in the alleys.
