Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds's Tarot Reading

Kenneth Edmonds was born in Indianapolis in 1958 to Barbara and Melvin Edmonds. He went to North Central High School and learned to play guitar at a young age. In 1972, when he was in eighth grade, his father passed away due to lung cancer. His mother raised him and his five brothers on her own. He dealt with his emotions by writing songs and decided to seek a career in music. The name 'Babyface' was given to him by funk legend Bootsy Collins when he was a teenager. Kenneth along with rhythm and blues artist Antonio 'L.A.' Reid co-founded LaFace Records in 1989. Several of the first artists they signed found enormous success. Toni Braxton's first album, Toni Braxton won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1993, selling more than eight million albums. TLC won the Grammy in 1996 for Best R and B Album with CrazySexyCool and, combined with their 1992 album Ooooooohhh ... On the TLC Tip, sold over 15 million copies.

Kenneth produced most of the soundtrack for the film Waiting to Exhale (1995) and wrote most of the songs as well. He and David Foster composed the official song of the 1996 Summer Olympics, 'The Power of the Dream' along with Linda Thompson who wrote the lyrics. In 1996, he and his wife Tracey Edmonds created Edmonds Entertainment and in 1997 produced Soul Food, a film that was highly praised for showing an African-American family in a more favorable light than most Hollywood fare. Written and directed by George Tillman, Jr., the film is about Mother Joe, who 'has held her family together for 40 years around a Sunday dinner of soul food. When diabetes hospitalizes her, the dinners stop and tensions among her three daughters start to break the family apart.' He wrote the lyrics to many of the songs in the film including 'A Song for Mama,' 'I Care 'Bout You,' 'We're Not Makin' Love No More,' 'You Are the Man,' 'Slow Jam,' 'Boys and Girls,' 'I Said I Love You,' 'Young Girl' and 'Have I Never.' Edmonds Entertainment also produced Hav Plenty (1997), Light It Up (1999), Josie and the Pussycats (2001), Tempting Fate (2002) College Hill (2004), Lil Kim: Countdown to Lockdown (2006), DMX: Soul of a Man (2006) and Blackstage (2007).

In 1999, 25 miles of Interstate 65 running through his home town was renamed Kenneth Babyface Edmonds Highway in honor of the native son who has forged a brilliant career as a rhythm and blues singer, composer, songwriter, singer, musician, record and film producer. He is one of few artists to win three Producer of the Year Grammy Awards in a row in 1995, 1996 and 1997.

Sun in Aries tells us that Kenneth is a man who thrives on challenge. He often feels that he must fight his way through life, depending upon no one and nothing but his own strength, intelligence and courage. He believes in being totally honest, true to himself and his own vision, even if it means standing alone. He likes to be in charge and craves the freedom to do things his own way. He loves action and is not afraid of trying something that's never been done before. Taking risks and following his own star are the breath of life for him. He is spontaneous, impulsive, direct, enthusiastic and assertive. Often he gets so fired up about his own projects that he inadvertently runs over or ignores other people's feelings and interests. He would gain much by learning to slow down, relax and occasionally just let things be but his restless nature rarely allows this. Sun sextile Mars tells us he can be an inspiring leader of a team effort. His dynamism and energy evoke the same in others and he sees healthy competition between people as a plus.

Mercury in Taurus means his mind operates in a very deliberate and methodical manner and once his mind is made up he is difficult to influence. He becomes adept at anything he puts his hand to for he is willing to devote a great deal of time and attention to it. He has the ability to concentrate and follow a project through to its completion. Stating the obvious, the planets say he has an aptitude for singing or drawing. With Mercury sextile Venus he appreciates aesthetics and has a fine sense of form, design and beauty. He has the ability to harmonize well with others and a talent for peacemaking in other people's relationships. His sense of humor, tact and personal charm are a great benefit to him in any work on a one-to-one level.

Venus in Pisces makes him sympathetic and compassionate. He is drawn to someone he can have a deep spiritual relationship with. He idealizes love and has a very romantic vision of what it can be. On September 5, 1992 he married Tracey E. Edmonds. About their partnership he has said, 'She pushed me in ways I needed to be pushed. She encouraged me to try new things, things I'd never done before.' They have two sons, Brandon and Dylan Michael. In October of 2005 he and Tracey announced their 'permanent separation' while promising that they would remain friends. In a public statement they said, 'We will continue to work together in our companies, and our various business ventures. More importantly, we are parents of two wonderful children, and will continue to provide a loving, caring and stable environment for them.'

Venus opposition Pluto reveals that intimate relationships are the arena in which he plumbs the depths of which he is capable. He could fall intensely and fanatically in love and be obsessive, extraordinarily jealous or deeply involved with partners who are. He will experience both heaven and hell in his closest relationships. There is a peculiarly karmic, fated quality to these relationships which, though difficult, will teach him things about himself and about love that he could learn in no other way.

Mars in Aquarius tells us he is socially oriented and works well in cooperation with others. He may be active in community affairs or unite with others to work toward a common goal. Progressive and democratic, he is not concerned with hoarding personal power or having authority over others. He is a team player. New, unconventional methods appeal to him, especially ideas that involve bringing people together or creating fairer working conditions. New technologies also interest him. Jupiter sextile Saturn shows he has the patience and the stamina to realize his visions and bring them down to earth, balancing hard work and realism with a positive, hopeful spirit. He grows by taking one step at a time. Overnight success is not what he aims for. His patient, well-balanced approach gives him credibility with many different types of people, and he is likely to gain an excellent reputation for being able to do big things without overreaching or becoming pretentious. This may be one of the reasons he has successfully collaborated with so many artists, including Boyz II Men whose singles 'End of the Road' and 'I'll Make Love To You,' both written and produced by Kenneth, held the number 1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart for the longest time on record. He wrote, produced and performed Madonna's 'Take a Bow,' which stood at number 1 for seven weeks. In 1997, he won the Producer of the Year Grammy for Eric Clapton's hit 'Change the World' -- which also won Clapton the Grammy for Song of the Year. He has written and produced for an amazing number of hit artists including Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Pink, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, Dru Hill, Mary J. Blige, Sheena Easton, En Vogue and Vanessa Williams. In the 2000 film Duets, produced by Bruce Paltrow and starring his daughter Gwenyth Paltrow, Kenneth produced the song 'Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)' and performed it with Gwyneth in the only film the two Paltrows have ever worked on together.

Saturn trine Pluto indicates that Kenneth dedicates himself wholeheartedly to a cause. He will sacrifice much and eliminate all superfluous activities and interests. Others may find his approach too severe and be unwilling to go along with him in the difficult circumstances that he is willing to tolerate.

Jupiter in Libra says his strengths lie in his ability to cooperate, to be diplomatic and to know just what behavior is called for in any situation he finds himself. He also possesses a strong sense of fairness and the willingness to listen to opposing viewpoints. Jupiter sextile Pluto means his eagerness to embrace change and to undergo deep, transformative experiences for growth and self-improvement is one of his finest attributes. He is also likely to be an instrument for positive reform in the world. In 2004, he was active in the campaign to defeat George W. Bush as US President by taking part in the Vote for Change concert tour. He coordinates well with other people when he shares a mission or higher purpose. While it probably goes without saying, the planets do say that musical and artistic endeavors will be important to him.

'The hardest lesson is that in making films, the studio has major control over you .... There are other ways of reaching people, and the more you figure out how to do that the more you can get around the giants.'
