Kate Noelle Holmes was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Kathleen and Martin J. Holmes, Sr. She has three sisters, Tamera, Holly and Nancy, and one brother, Martin, Jr.

She was an 'A' student at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, a Catholic college preparatory high school, which, according to their website, 'promotes the holistic development of young women for leadership and service by providing a quality educational experience permeated with Christian values.' The school 'challenges and prepares our girls to go out into the world as open-minded communicators, strong leaders and logical thinkers.' While 'creating women of vision -- continuing 100 years of tradition in excellence,' the school is continuing a slightly smaller tradition within Katie's own family: her mother also went to Notre Dame.
