Jamie FoxxBirth Details: This double Sagittarian has taken his adventurous nature well beyond the curve, becoming one of only a handful of stars to win an Oscar for Best Actor and a Number 1 Billboard hit in the same year. 'In our music, in our everyday life, there are so many negative things. Why not have something positive and stamp it with blackness?' Sun in Sagittarius: Jamie Foxx, born Eric Marlon Bishop, in Terrell, Texas, was brought up by his grandparents, Mark and Estelle Talley. His grandmother had him start taking piano lessons at about age three. He played quarterback for his high school football team, the Terrell Tigers, and received a music scholarship to attend Alliant International University in San Diego from 1986 to 1988. According to the school's official website, 'Jamie never stopped playing the piano when he was here, reminisces Alliant Professor Emeritus Jack Tygett. 'He could play everything from symphonic music to the latest hits and ragtime.' Professor Tygett headed the Musical Theatre department when the University (then named US International University) awarded Mr. Foxx (then named Eric Bishop), a scholarship in classical piano.' From there, Foxx went on to study classical piano at Juilliard. Jamie Foxx began his career in show business in 1989 as a stand-up comedian. In 1990 he landed a spot on 'In Living Color' and in 1991 was cast in 'Roc'. It wasn't long before he had his own TV series, 'The Jamie Foxx Show', on the WB network. His first album, Peep This, came out in 1994 and he sang the theme song for his 1999 movie, Any Given Sunday. His biggest break was also his biggest challenge and his 2004 portrayal of Ray Charles holds the Number 31 spot on Premiere Magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Performances of All Time. Ray came in at Number 99 on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 Most Inspiring Movies of All Time. For this role, Foxx won a Golden Globe, a SAG Award, a BAFTA Award and an Academy Award for Best Actor. Jamie has a daughter, Corrine, born in 1995, who lives with her mother. Corrine accompanied him to the Oscars in 2005. In his acceptance speech, he said 'I want to thank my daughter for telling me just before I got up here, If you don't win Dad, you're still good .... My daughter shares my grandmother's name, Marie. My grandmother's name is Estelle Marie Talley. She's not here tonight .... But she was my first acting teacher. She told me to stand up straight. Put your shoulders back. Act like you got some sense. We would go places. And I would wild out. And she would say, 'Act like you've been somewhere.'' With his Sun and Mercury in Sagittarius, Foxx got a double dose of wanderlust. He is an adventurer at heart and needs a lifestyle that provides opportunities for travel and change. He loves meeting new people. A steady routine which offers a lot of security but little freedom is definitely not his thing. To Foxx, life is a journey -- endlessly rich with possibilities. He has big dreams and aspirations and is constantly pursuing a distant goal. He has a great deal of faith in life and failures don't bring him down. He expresses himself in a very direct and straightforward manner and sometimes can be a little blunt. Not taking himself all that seriously, he may not realize that his candid statements can injure more thin-skinned types. With his Sun Square Pluto, Foxx can be zealous. He often hides the intensity of his feelings and has an almost compulsive desire to be 'Somebody.' The world should expect an R and B revival soon because Foxx has said, 'I'd like to say, I'm R and B's savior. Whether that's the truth or not, I'm definitely going out there with my mic and my shield to declare, 'I am here to save R and B.' I will have the people saying, 'Sire, there is a man at the musical gates saying he is here to save R and B.'' With Venus in Scorpio, Foxx desires a profound and passionate union. Venus Square Mars means that he is not inclined to friendly platonic relationships. The whole arena of love and romance is endlessly fascinating for him. The man is not happy without a partner and he can burn himself out by pouring so much energy into romance. For proof of this one need only check out the lyrics to all but one song on his 2005 album, Unpredictable.' In contrast, the last song on the album is a love letter to his grandmother, Estelle Talley: ... I can still hear you say Son, walk upright And straighten yo tie You don't want one of those good jobs to pass you by Don't act no fool, I'm watching you And now that you're gone It still feels like you do .... I wish u were here To see the things I've done I wish u were here You'd be so proud of your son I wish u were here To celebrate with me .... Venus Sextile Jupiter means Foxx loves to laugh, celebrate, and enjoy himself with his companions. Emotionally open and easygoing, he considers just about anyone a potential friend. His good humor and friendliness make him popular and well-liked. Venus aspects Jupiter and Saturn mean that Jamie's pleasure-loving nature and generosity discussed above are counterbalanced by a fear of heartache. Because he is upbeat and fun-loving, people probably do not suspect how sensitive he can be. Venus Quincunx Saturn suggests that Jamie may have been indoctrinated with a duty-and-work-before-all-else orientation early on. In his 2005 Oscar acceptance speech, Jamie said as much, referring again to his grandmother: 'And then when I would act the fool, she would beat me. She would whup me. And she could get an Oscar for the way she whupped me because she was great at it. And after she whupped me, she would talk to me and tell me why she whupped me. She said, 'I want you to be a southern gentleman.' She still talks to me now. Only now, she talks to me in my dreams. And I can't wait to go to sleep tonight because we got a lot to talk about. I love you.' Venus Conjunct Sun/Pluto gives Jamie a strong creative drive, with the ability to think in forms or shapes and also to tune into rhythms such as dancing, gymnastics and song. His physical coordination is likely to be excellent. Neptune Conjunct Mercury/Venus indicates that Jamie has great imagination, fantasy and inspiration and sees everything in clear pictures. He is thoughtful and has a sympathetic understanding of others. N. Node Opposition Sun/Jupiter makes him a born leader who is able to promote good fellowship and teamwork, insuring success in any joint undertaking. Mars in Aquarius promises that Jamie is very socially oriented and works well in cooperation with others. He may be active in community affairs or unite with others to work toward a common goal. Progressive and democratic, he is not concerned with hoarding personal power or having authority over others. He is a team player. Mars Sextile Saturn ensures that Jamie is responsible and serious about his work, accomplishing a great deal through his dedication. However, he is humble about his accomplishments. Jupiter in Virgo gives him the ability to think things through clearly, and to analyze and understand the smallest details of any plan. He has a modest nature and is more concerned with the success of his project or work than with personal aggrandizement. He enjoys working and is happiest when he is being productive, saying, 'I never really factor Hollywood into anything. I'm a black actor, so I can't really control what Hollywood thinks. I gotta go do my thing, and my jokes have got to be funny. Whatever I do has got to be great.' |
