With a vocal range of four octaves, Christina Aguilera grew up wanting to be a singer. Her first album, Christina Aguilera, went platinum-times-ten and in 2000 she won a Grammy for Best New Artist. Her parents, Shelly Loraine Fidler, of Irish, Welsh and Dutch heritage, and Fausto Xavier Aguilera, an American Army Sergeant who was born in Ecuador, met at Brigham Young University in Utah. They were separated when Christina was six. In 1999, she graduated from North Allegheny High School, in Wexford, Pennsylvania. She has a sister, Rachel, a half-brother, Michael, a step-brother Casey and a step-sister, Stephanie.

With her Sun in Sagittarius Christina is a gambler and adventurer at heart, one who loves to take risks, to discover and explore new worlds, and to take a lesser known route rather than a safe, familiar one. 'I never really had this father figure, which never bothered me,' says Christina. 'I had my mom, I had people that did love me and care for me.' Her song, 'I'm OK' is about her father's abusive behavior during her parents' marriage. About this she has said, 'It is such a hush-hush topic because it happens in the home. I definitely wrote that song not to badmouth him at all, but one, for a healing process for myself, and two, to give people hope or a voice to relate to. To know that you can get through it and that it will be OK.' In 2003 Christina donated $200,000 to the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh in Oakland. She is also a contributor to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, as well as Refuge UK.

An incurable optimist, she has big dreams for the future and is usually pursuing a distant goal. She has a great deal of faith and trust in life and failures don't crush her spirit. 'You can take it or leave it,' says Aguilera, 'but I'm not going to change, not for anyone.' She always bounces back from disappointments, often with another bright dream or scheme. She has a sporting, playful attitude toward life and is philosophical about her mistakes. She has the ability to sense future trends and to see the big picture. 'It's been quite a roller-coaster ride,' she says, 'but I think I've grown and learned a lot about myself. In this business, it's often all about hype, record sales, and a crazy schedule of traveling, performances, and it can be easy to get lost in all that. But for me, the greatest thing is being able to interact with fans and touch peoples' lives. I know that's a greater accomplishment than selling records. For that I give thanks. I simply love the job I'm doing.'

However, concerning rumors of a falling-out with Britney Spears, Christina states, 'There is no truth to the rumors that we hate each other. I have no ill feeling for Britney and vice versa. I am proud of all the achievements she has made in her career, she is a very hard working person. I have nothing but love for her.'
