Bono

Bono
May 10, 1960
Dublin, Ireland

This triple Taurus will stop at nothing when it comes to fighting poverty and disease.

'It would be wrong for me to say, 'Yes, we can change the world with a song.' But every time I try writing, that's where I'm at. I'm not stupid. I'm aware of the futility of rock 'n' roll music, but I'm also aware of its power.'

Bono's Tarot Reading

Bono, born Paul David Hewson, became lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for the Irish band U2 in 1978. The other members are The Edge (David Evans) on guitar, Adam Clayton on bass and Larry Mullen, Jr. on drums. Since the time when less than ten people showed up for one of their gigs, Entertainment Weekly has named U2 the 22nd Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Artists of all time. In 2005, with 22 Grammy awards to their credit, U2 was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

In 2003, Bono was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his 'successful efforts to relieve third world debt and promote AIDS awareness in Africa.' Also in 2003, French President Jacques Chirac made him a Knight in the Order of the Legion of Honor for his tireless social activism. In 2005, Bono, as well as Bill and Melinda Gates, were selected as TIME Magazine's Persons of the Year.

With his Sun in Taurus, Bono is a steadfast and patient soul, capable of tremendous devotion. The ability to follow through is one of his greatest assets. Once his course is set, he pursues it tenaciously until it is completed. With a great love of the physical world he wants to experience and enjoy it to the fullest. Though he will work long and hard, he also has a strong sensual and comfort-loving side, and wants to enjoy what he has worked for. He may have a tendency to overindulge in good food and other earthly pleasures. He loves the beauty of the natural world and would probably prefer a serene country setting to an urban life style.

At heart his needs are simple. He has a strong desire for stability and peace and will rarely make changes unless he is forced to. He is not very demanding emotionally, though he does crave physical closeness and affection. Because of his faithfulness, emotional steadiness and gentle strength, others often depend upon him for support. He also has an innate sense of harmonizing with nature and allowing things to grow and blossom in their own time -- be it a garden, a child or a creative project. He is an excellent father because he follows his instincts. In 2003, he and daughters Jordan and Eve illustrated Peter and the Wolf, a children's book, and donated all the proceeds to the Irish Hospice Foundation.

Sun trine Saturn means he is realistic and practical and sets goals for himself that are modest enough to actually achieve. He is able to tackle long-term projects and see them through, for he possesses self-discipline, concentration and perseverance. He has a strong sense of responsibility and is very conscientious in fulfilling his obligations. With Sun aspects Saturn and Uranus, although he takes himself and his responsibilities seriously, there is also a part of him that rebels against rules, restrictions and outside authority. He may feel torn between fulfilling his obligations and breaking free of them. Sun square Uranus gives him a wilder side that is impulsive and restless, making his life somewhat unstable at times. He requires excitement, adventure and freedom. With a rebellious streak, he often feels he is different from mainstream society. The unorthodox and novel appeal to him.

Mercury in Taurus indicates that his mind operates in a very methodical manner and he dislikes being rushed or forced to give an opinion before he has thoroughly digested an idea. He is also difficult to influence once his mind is made up. Patient and persevering, he becomes adept at anything he applies himself to for he is willing to devote much time and attention to it. He succeeds not so much because of his mental brilliance, but because he has the ability to concentrate and follow a project through to its completion. Although it hardly needs to be said, the planets do indeed say that he has an aptitude for singing or drawing. While it is well known that he sings, he is also a painter, albeit a modest one. About his artwork he says, 'I love art too much to call these anything other than marks on paper.'

With Mercury conjunct Venus he appreciates aesthetics and has a fine sense of form, design and beauty. He could develop considerable technical skill as an artist, designer, craftsman or creative writer. In fact, he and his wife Ali, along with designer Rogan, have created a line of casual wear called Edun -- a socially aware company which benefits nations struggling with poverty.

He has the ability to please and harmonize well with others. His sense of humor, tact and personal charm are of great benefit in any work with people on a one-to-one level. Mercury opposition Neptune reveals that his mind is intuitive, imaginative, colorful and strongly influenced by imagery or fantasy. He sees the world with the eyes of an artist or poet. At times he is able to perceive things that others do not -- the 'aura' of a place or a person, for instance -- while at the same time overlooking things that are glaringly obvious. He may project his fantasies and wishes onto other people or situations without seeing what is actually there.

Uranus opposition Mars/Jupiter shows that he is ambitious and has a great need for freedom. Although he is quite restless, he has the ability to make the right decisions very quickly. He probably had the urge to be on his own early in life and strongly resisted parental guidance -- perhaps with good reason, having said, 'Overcoming my dad telling me that I could never amount to anything is what has made me the megalomaniac that you see today.'

Venus in Taurus promises that in love, he is steadfast and loyal, especially if he has a warm, demonstrative partner. He is very sensually oriented and needs lots of touching and physical affection. He enjoys being pampered with a good meal, loving massage or other sensual delights. He is a wonderful lover, very attentive to the comfort and enjoyment of the one he loves. He has been married to Ali Hewson since August 21, 1982. They live in Dublin and have four children -- two daughters, Jordan and Eve, and two sons, Elijah and John.

With Venus trine Jupiter he appreciates beautiful surroundings and congenial company. He enjoys helping people and is good-humored and generous at heart. He is capable of much devotion to a spiritual path for he is actually seeking some sort of transcendent or mystical experience through love. Venus trine Pluto discloses that he loves deeply, passionately and wholeheartedly and others may find his intensity either extremely attractive or threatening. He is charismatic and can have a powerful emotional influence on others, especially those of the opposite sex. He may use his attractiveness to manipulate others, sometimes without even realizing it. Neptune opposition Mercury/Venus gives him great imagination and inspiration and he sees everything in clear pictures. He may have a liking for poetry and fairy-tales.

Mars in Pisces makes him something of a pacifist. He will give something up rather than fight for it. He can be quite happy working for the benefit of others or for a cause that he believes in. He has high ideals and a strong mystical or religious impulse. With his creative imagination he can successfully apply himself to art or music and has written songs with (or for) Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Keith Richards, Luciano Pavarotti and Sinead O'Connor, to name a few.

Jupiter in Capricorn endows him with a natural sense of structure and self-discipline. Jupiter trine Pluto indicates a sensitivity to the larger social context of a project and he is likely to achieve a high level of success in his career. Jupiter opposition Sun/Uranus means that he has a very good intellectual grasp and is interested in anything progressive. He also may join a cause or movement and could be successful carrying out reforms. Says he, 'I represent a lot of people (in Africa) who have no voice at all .... They haven't asked me to represent them. It's cheeky but I hope they're glad I do.' Bono is the only person on Earth to have been nominated for an Academy Award, a Grammy, a Golden Globe and a Nobel Prize.

Saturn in Capricorn indicates that he has a great capacity for self-denial in the pursuit of a long-range goal. He is capable of hard work and persistent labor, but he may lack joyfulness and the ability to play. He often feels burdened by life's demands and responsibilities and should beware of becoming too heavy or cynical.

Bono is part of a 15 year group of people with Pluto in Virgo who tend to have strong ideas about right and wrong. With feelings of despair about the world's condition, they have a subconscious drive to extinguish evil in the world. They will make great contributions in the areas of medicine, nutrition, ecology and education. Also part of a 14 year group with Neptune sextile Pluto, his entire generation has tremendous opportunities for spiritual rebirth and awakening. Says Bono, 'The world is more malleable than you think. We can bend it into a better shape. Ask big questions, demand big answers.'
